18th ANNUAL EMPOWERMENT AND ACTION DAY

Active living for persons with disabilities

At the 18th Annual Empowerment & Action Day Conference, participants will explore and learn about ways to live a full, active, independent and healthy life. This event being held at the Four Points Sheraton will feature presentations, workshops and hands-on demonstrations on topics such as fitness, nutrition, accessible travel and a wealth of other active living options for persons with disabilities. As well a variety of community agencies and businesses will have exhibits that showcase the range of assistive services and products their organization offers.

Presented in partnership with March of Dimes Canada and proudly sponsored by MV1 Canada. The Advisory Committee also greatly appreciates the financial support of Allsource Depot and Beck Hearing Aid Centre Inc. and the service sponsorship contributions of the Canadian Hearing Society and Participation House Support Services.

In addition to the conference details, this page provides information that includes accommodation and dietary requirements, the scent neutral policy, public transit arrangements and hotel bookings.

Payment of conference fee

Payment must be received at the time of registration. Visa, MasterCard or American Express are required for telephone, e-mail or TTY registrations. Debit cards, currently dated cheques and cash can be accepted if registering in person. Post-dated cheques are not accepted. Please do not send cash through the mail. A service charge of $36.00 will be assessed on all NSF cheques.

Registration includes lunch and refreshments.

Dietary restrictions
When you register, please let us know of any food allergies or dietary restrictions you may have. The hotel will be notified of your requirements and will do their best to accommodate your needs. 

Scent-neutral event
To make this conference accessible to those with chemical sensitivities, the event is scent-neutral.  We ask all participants to refrain from using perfumes, colognes, strong soaps/shampoos or any additional scents on the day of the conference.  Note: Soaps and cleaning supplies used by the hotel may be scented.

Transportation & hotel booking information

Bus service
The Four Points Sheraton Hotel is located on the east side of Wellington Road South, just south of the White Oaks Mall. London Transit has a number of accessible bus routes that take you towards the Four Points Sheraton. Routes 4 (Oxford East, 10 (Wonderland), 13 (Wellington), 14 (Highbury) and 26 (Jalna Boulevard) stop at White Oaks Mall. However, Route 13 exits the mall, travels south on Wellington Road and circles back to stop in front of the hotel.

*   Online registration for the conference will be through the City’s Parks and Recreation Spectrum Interactive website. Follow the instructions, set up your account and then register. You can enter the Course Code 242882 into the Search box under the Courses tab.

**  In-person - You may register in person at any of the following recreational facilities from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday: Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre, North London Optimist Community Centre, Canada Games Aquatic Centre, Market Tower 3rd Floor, South London Community Pool and at the Kiwanis Senior Community Centre.
